WASHINGTON - The induction of Dayton Daily News sports writer HalMcCoy into the writer's wing of the Major League Baseball Hall ofFame this weekend is a 'fitting and well-deserved' tribute to thequality and quantity of his coverage of the Cincinnati Reds, Sen.Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, said Friday in an encomium delivered on theSenate floor.
'I am a lifelong fan of the Reds,' said DeWine. 'And for the last31 years, I've counted on Hal McCoy for complete, detailed, objectivecoverage of their games.'
Praising McCoy's 'incredible work ethic,' DeWine looked up fromhis text and explained, 'You pick up the paper in the morning and yousee the account of the game, and sometimes you'll see a column to goalong with that. So you'll see another story on the back page andyou'll see the notes for the games. Sometimes three, sometimes fourstories in one paper by one writer, and that's Hal McCoy!'
The senator described McCoy as a terrific writer and a magnificentstoryteller.
